Hello all. I find myself leaning on your experience and expertise in this area of coin collecting. I found this 1982-D quarter in change given back to me. It definitely falls under the circulated category but is this a broadstuck coin or is what has happened along the outer part of the coin's faces/sides due to years of wear? Any input would be appreciatively welcomed. Thanks.

I think it may have spent some time in the between the inner and outer drums of a dryer. It has the classic Dryer Coin look to the edge and rims. It may be underweight by the look of the missing rims. The coin looks like it's also slightly less than the design diameter from the loss of the reeded edge.

Not a broadstruck. Looks more like a casino slot machine coin to me.

I agree that this quarter looks worn rather than broadstruck. What is the diameter?

Appears to be highly worn--post-strike damage. An accurate weight might be helpful.

Here is part of the reason why you are seeing the devices close to the rims

But as mentioned, this coin was probably damaged in a commercial clothes dryer, thus the missing reeds on the outside edge of the coin and the weakened rims and devices. (Looks like it went for a ride for a while.
