Ty, the counterfeit 1936 Buffalo nickel weighs 5.99 grams. Appears to be lead, or at least mainly lead.

Quote: OK to build such a collection, provided that each piece is acquired at their true (very low) value. I understand the sentiment, but some contemporary counterfeits are worth more than their real counterparts.

That 35 is a classic contemporary, always been a fan of those. If you're ever looking to get rid of it let me know Jack!
Edit: Sorry if I hijacked your thread Jerry Picker.

A friend just posted this one he bought from "an older gentleman who had them for years"! Notice some of the "points of interest" on it as documented in my Coin Week article...

Lets make this a hot thread I have several contemporary counterfeits, but this one is the one that started my study of these dark coins... Hondo Boguss, I also have a 1929 (unknown mintmark) CC walker that I found at a flea market amongst some other foreign coins all for a dollar each. I bought it not knowing that it was counterfeit but obviously wondered why it looked weird, only later did I realize that it was fake. One can also find a few more of my other contemporary counterfeits on this site, a 1915-S Barber half, and an 1858 CC Three Cent Silver trime...
