I received a $2 bill in change for the first time in I don't know how long. The clerk started hastily explaining that it was real money, and I just said it was fine.
I then spent it at our local dollar store. The young clerk looked at it, flipped it over and looked at it again, while I awaited to hear his reaction. He gave me a big smile and said "That's really interesting, I've not seen one of these before!". I gave him a little info about it, and he was still looking at it as I left.

I sometimes grab $200 in $2 at the bank. It's fun spending them.

@Coinfrog, it's been a while since I did something like that, but it's always interesting seeing the varied reactions. Now, about that $3 bill... @hfjacinto, a long time ago I'd spend $2 bills, Kennedy halves, Ikes and SBA dollars, but got out of the habit of doing it. I'd also sometimes spend low grade Buffalo (sorry, Bison) nickels, Indian cents and the such. I need to start doing these things again!

I'm old, and I'm old fashioned. I still send birthday cards out in the mail to friends and relatives and every man, woman and child gets a new-ish $2 note in their card. Everyone seems to love them.

I like to spend twos, dollar coins, and halves. Every now and then I will ask the clerk if they are going to use them for change or will they just go to the bank at the end of the day. Sometimes they will say they are going to keep them for themselves. But I've never had a clerk say they are going to give them back out as change. Does anyone else ask the clerks this question?

Back in the mid 70's I picked up a few CU $2 bills with first of issue stamps on them . I haven't seen one in years . I would love to have a graded low ball of a 1976 $2 bill .

Quote: When did you start your hobby? As far as paper money goes, around 2005. I've been collecting "something" for about 30 years and I'm starting to thin the herd. I just sold my domed, Star Trek Lunchbox and thermos on ebay for $1,425. It's incredible what people will pay for nostalgia.

I got same reaction when I spent some extra 2's...also a younger gal who looked it up and down and asked her manager if it was real. Other times it amost seemed as an annoyance to them.
