Looking back at the previous topics it seem this is a good time to ask the annual question regarding our goals! Most of us have 2022 wrapped up; however, a late year surprise can happen after you post your 2023 goals here. Maybe.  |

1. Fill the last four core Dansco album holes 7000 (2) - 1877 IHC and 1916-D Mercury dime. 8100 (2) - 1909-S VDB and 1922 "Plain" (which may be a blank or a cheaper "Weak D"). 2. Finish the extended part of the PCGS Ike set The final Presidential dollar (2015 P) One "extra" to fill the last slot in the Lighthouse box. 3. Buy whatever appeals to me from 2023 US Mint offerings, including: 2023 Clad Proof Set 2023 Silver Proof Set 2023 American Innovation $1 Coin Proof Set 2023 American Innovation $1 Coin Reverse Proof Set 2023 Uncirculated Coin Set |

1) ATB silver proof setPlanning to buy a 2014 proof silver set early in 2023 when I get my ebay bucks certificate. I might buy more sets at the April NH Coin & Currency expo, but it really depends on price. The coins will go into my Dansco album. 2) Kingdom of The Netherlands Type SetThis set is very slow going. Still looking for a Willem I gulden and rijksdaalder, in addition to several Dutch East Indies coins from the mid-19th century. 3) Set of Silver Ducats from The Dutch RepublicHaven't done anything with this barely-started set. I am considering selling the two coins I have and forget about assembling a set, as prices per coin are simply too high for my taste. 4) World commemorative coins of composersThis project goes well. Finishing up with coins featuring composers from Austria. Now working on those from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Italy. 5) International Birthyear Set CollectionRecently started endeavor with a half dozen sets. 6) Medals from UtrechtAnother collection that was started recently. I now have three medals and hope to acquire more at upcoming auctions.

My 2023 goals are a rehash of 2022. 1) Complete the 3 missing coins from my 7070 type set. This is really low priority. The 3 missing coins just don't excite me for what they cost. So it most likely won't even be looked at. 2) Complete the slabbed IHC set. Missing only 9. May get a few but I doubt I'll complete the set in 2023. 3) Get any missing notes from my US currency type set. I have a few fractionals that I am interested in and maybe another large sized. 4) Get the following from the US Mint: a) Women's quarter in Silver Proof b) Innovation Dollars Proof Set c) Get the Peace/Morgan proofs and reverse proofs. d) Get the Peace for 2023, Morgans are ? 5) Add to my Portuguese Coin Type Set 6) Add to my Portuguese Currency Type Set. |

Finish my 1938-1961 G-VG Jefferson nickel set .  No really, I would like to finish my nice, circulated Buffalo nickel set which has becoming along nicely. Also continue to buy any OBW rolls of Lincoln Memorial Cents from 1965- 1988 . I would like to finish my V-Nickel set , only 3 more to go . An S-VDB Lincoln is still unjustifiable for me ,same with a 1916-D Merc to finish those sets .  . Edited by T-BOP

Aside from the usual annual purchases...
Buy the last two W-mint quarters I need for my collection (Samoa & Weir).
Debate stealing NumisEd's idea of an international birth year collection.
Hope physical silver comes down in price.

i would like to knock out 6 or more varieties for my large cents next year. ill probably focus on 1794s because I have less than half of the varieties for that year. if business is good I will work on the 1793 varieties instead. I would rather get one really hard one than multiple of the easier ones.

I can say:
1. Print as soon as possible the guide of Quarters 1932-1999 Design Varieties and
2. Finish and print the same kind of Guide for the JFK Halves.
3. Acquire as much coins is possible in the category of the first 100 less certified coins and many BoV (Best of Varieties).

I want to find a $1 bill with 5 consecutive 9's in circulation. I have 5 consecutive of everything else, just got 5 1's. The odds of getting 5 consecutive 9's is one about 29,000 so...some work to do!
and maybe a nice 55 double die

2023 collecting goals?
Same as they always have been for the last 40 years or so.
That is: to get best value across the whole range of numismatics, for money spent in purchase.
I am an OFEC collector.
C equally means
1. Century
2. Continent
3. Culture, in all eras written history, that issued coins.
The scope of such a collection would obviously be impossible if I included
4. every ancient Greek City
5. every ancient Roman Colony
6. every Colony of all the major empires throughout history.
Only the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, or the British Museum in London has the capability to achieve those more detailed goals.
What I am attempting to do is to
describe the development of World human histories and cultures, using coins as the hardware of that history.
Coins across written history have something to teach us, and I am letting the coins themselves do the teaching.
It is necessary that I have to be single minded and one direction focused. So far, for the last 40 years or so, I have been successful.
I have to admit: I do feel a bit like a museum curator, and feel like I don't actually own the coins - I am just a temporary custodian of them.

1. Finish the 3rd edition of the book. I have some work to do on the generator, and data entry. I know it will never be "finished" I just have to draw a like. 2. If I can keep from going nutts, I'd like to search 70000 pennies before Next Christmas. I like those little endorphine rushes that you get, with a discovery.
