Hey y'all, I hope everyone is doing well. Last night I was hunting through $200 in $1's and found a 2017 A descending ladder. F87654321A. I know it may be very valuable. Should I get it graded? If so, PCGS or pmg. Also, where should I sell to get the most eyes on it? Thank you!!

Welcome to CCF. Great find. Uncirculated examples bring $1,200 - $1,800 when graded. I'm guessing the OP's note would fetch a little less than half, because of condition. Having it graded, at either PMG or PCGS, would help potential buyers with concerns about authenticity.

and I agree with Steve. It is a graeat find and you should put it in a Mylar sleeve asap.Be very careful putting the note in the sleeve, you do not want to damage the corners. John1

Thank y'all so much!! I think I'm going to send it in to PMG and get it certified just to add a little legitimacy to it. Where do you recommend putting it up for auction? I usually use ebay, but I've never had something this nice. Lol

Congrats on the find Some people are comfortable sending items to get graded themselves then listing on ebay, while others are not and choose instead to use a service like Great Collections https://www.greatcollections.com/main-sell or Heritage Auctions as two examples https://currency.ha.com/ If you use ebay you could try first to sell with a buy it now price at a higher price, then move it to a auction if it doesn't move at that higher price. To add to the great info you've been given. General Value Range is $600-2100. Most of the US currency is usually printed from low serial numbers to the higher. Not every series of currency is printed to full capacity and reaches its maximum printing run of 96000000. Sometimes it will end up somewhere lower than it could which makes the descending ladder scarcer than an ascending ladder. Therefore, the descending serial numbers will tend to have a higher value than the ascending ones. Of course as mentioned condition plays a big part.

Thank you!! I'm going to send it off tomorrow for grading and see if I can move it on ebay. If that doesn't work, I'll probably move to heritage. Thank y'all so much!!

Look forward to seeing what it grades at and sells for since its on a recent 2017A series. Just keep in mind that there are costs to grade including also a yearly membership fee, so if you havent graded anything before and dont plan on grading other things later this can add to the total. In that case only or if your ebay account isn't established with decent amount of feedback, compare the fees for grading and also including ebay fees for selling yourself to sending to Great Collections for example who will have it graded at a reduced fee then sell it for auction (minus their fees). Sometimes when theres just one item and a person does not yet have a membership to grade, it can be cost effective and save time just to use the auction sites.

I had no idea! Thank you. I knew I had pay for grading, but I was unaware that there are auction sites that would grade it for me. I think I may go that route to save some money. If I start finding a lot more to be graded then I may consider the membership. Thank you!

Memberships are reasonable in pricing, such as NGC/PMG is $25 for a year (Or $149 with $150 credit for those who have a lot to submit) (PCGS is higher and so many wait to use PCGS until they have numerous items and/or higher dollar value items to regularly submit), and a membership would then allow you to send in other items for the remainder of the year for grading. However, if you only have the one item it certainly can be worthwhile to compare to pricing such as Great Collections since they also grade and then sell saving time as well. Just general info for you to decide whats best in your situation.
