As I'm educating myself with my magnifying glass, I saw this (don't need one to see, but somehow missed originally). Curious if anyone know what causes this..? Thanks

Looks like a gouge on the coin, post-mint damage.

"Looks like a gouge on the coin, post-mint damage." I was hoping we wouldn't start with that guess. If sent to PCGS, would it not be gradable?

It also shows signs of a cleaning, so it would likely get an XF details grade anyway, regardless of the gouge. The value would not justify sending for grading by PCGS.

Yeah, , with Zurie, post mint gouge damage...

Die clashes on Morgan dollars are primarily in ONLY four major locations, but several minor other clash locations can exist. These clashes may or may not have letter transfer depending on the severity of the clashing.
Place #1: obverse in front of the neck of Liberty as an angled line/s with/without letter transfer.
Place #2: reverse below right eagles wing next to the wreath as a hair Vee transfer from Liberty's hair,
Place #3: reverse line below the word IN from clashed Liberty's neck, and
Place #4: right around the top of the left wreath could be clashing from liberty's mouth area.

There are many other clash locations on these coins, but these are the main pick-up-points on Morgan dollars. For much more exhaustive descriptions, vamworld.com is the place to go next.

Bummer, it might just find it into my Whitman album (houses my less quality Morgans).
