I was just in contact with my friends at Stacks/Bowers with a particular item in question and since I was in a nice little debate with a NJ 68-w in another thread here I thought I would pose this inquiry. Its an Indian cent Collection in a pristine old Wayte Raymond Collection book which is similar in design for those who have never seen one to an old Whitman Coin holder with those sliding palstic sleaves. Collection is complete (1877 -G4), 1908-S (VF) and 1909-S (VF) with the semi-keys 1870's in Fine or so - Flying Eagles in VF & 1900's in typical VF-AU condition. The collection has been getting poor offers on ebay since in-hand inspection is not possible, Stacks/Bowers will make an honest offer after review at the upcoming NY International - just wondering for all you Indian cent Collectors - if you factor out Heritage & Stacks/Bowers who would you send a set USPS insured/registered for auction so this set can be properly appreciated in some form of a lot viewing or similar auction arrangement for all the coins in the set are RAW. Your thoughts? John Lorenzo, New Jersey.

wherever it is going see who takes the bigger piece of your pie.. some will deal on fees, some will sell for free if a threshold is met.. sell where you can put a minimum start price, etc..

John,

These are always tricky as no one will give you a great price unless each coin is individually photographed. I would take pictures of the keys/semi keys and offer it up for sale on ebay. In the end the real value of this set is made up of about 9 coins (1859, 1864-L, 1869, 1870, 1871, 1872, 1877, 1908 S and 1909 S), take high res pictures of the 9 and then try to sell it on ebay again.

Here are a couple of options to consider:

Great Collections - Have GC send to PCGS for grading and then to CAC. The down side is that it will take some time at current grading turn around times to get your money.
Gerry Fortin Coins - He will take your coins on consignment and list at BIN price. He handles both raw coins and slabs. He will individually photograph each coin. Check out his web site to see if you like it.
