I am still learning errors and rarities when it comes to coinage. So while sorting through my 5 pounds of wheat pennies I found this 1949-S that looks as if the lamination is off of this penny. Can someone help me with this please? I'll be posting more finds soon such as good condition coins and possible errors. So I'm needing as much help as I can get. Thanks!

nice pics, usually laminations are pretty much the same color as the rest of the coin, so on the reverse that could be old, dried glue or similar

Looks like environmental damage to me. I advise that you post the weight for conformation.

I agree something is "on" the coin, not a lamination. John1

that looks like glue flaking off the reverse. also it is possible that this coin also displays some woody characteristics ?

You gentlemen would be correct. With a better pic it looks like dried glue. Good call thanks. And the weight is 3.2 grams.

It looks like glue. It has the imprint of an Obverse side penny it was resting against.

to the CCF and glue. Soak it in water first, if that doesn't remove it soak it in acetone.

@sil, first welcome to CCF. Second, if you look on the rev between the letter P of EPU and the letter O of ONE, you will see where some of this glue has already flaked off because the surface toning abruptly changes from darker to lighter. I suspect that if you remove this glue, then there will be more of this dark/light patchiness to the reverse.

Probably Elmer's as it a partly visible to see through. Not a mint error, just an addition through the years. Probably attached to paper at one time.

If it is Elmers' then water would dissolve this without hurting the coin. I agree it is a type of "Woodie"

Glue. Post mint damage, no numismatic Value.
