Hello CCF,

Please share your thoughts regarding this 1928 (P) LWC. It seems smaller (in diameter) than a normal LWC however weight is on par (3.1 grams).
Is this a mint error? If so, what type of error is it?
Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

Mostly looks like circulation wear/damage to me but could also have a partial collar error.

I'm thinking may have been encased at some point? Thanks, Doug.

Flattened edge to me looks like it was pressed down with a pipe. I appears that the whole coin is out of round now. If so the it was altered post strike.

This coin used to be encased in a lucky piece holder, the machines that encased these coins are not very kind to them.
edit: typo.

As COOP says this coin has met a hammer and pipe at one time. Encased would not have this much damage. They sold them as a good luck charm, they wouldn't want to damage the coin and then try to sell it.

yep, PMD, the rim cannot be struck in this shape (bulging at top an bottom) due to the collar which holds the planchet in place. It was crushed by something.
