I've got a few coins that are in old basement slabs, this Morgan being one of them. Curious what you would say vs what's on the label. The long lines (taped for security from the graders) across the coin are from the holder.

reverse strike weak for the year. most of the luster is missing. maybe its lighting but I'm going with AU and the eye appeal and all the scratches may lower the grade to about AU53.

Lust is very nice, very nice eye appeal to it. Not sure exactly how to capture luster

I am with you all on the AU front. Be prepared your jaw to drop! Ha, gotta love old HCGS. Slab might be more collectable than the coin.... I do believe this to be HCGS #2, not the orig that sold to PCI.
Anyone want to venture a guess as to what Hallmark Coin Grading Services had to say about it?

After a super deep rabbit hole dive and some help, I believe her to be VAM 5 as well. It has doubling all over and a tripled eyelid.

frog nailed it...I started looking high looking low studying and brain flying everywhere then the backbone told me "where's the luster" it ain't there so I go with cleaned AU details. Hallmark Slab Co. likely has it at UNC MS63 and not being sarcastic PCI has some real nice Honeys out there also. Note I've smashed all my PCI coins out to free them but honestly those PCI slabs are getting scarcer every year and who knows someday chances are they will be sought after as an emblem of the wildwood west early 1990's. Even today I exclaim when I handle most PCI holders "what the heck!" man they were brazen trying to pass those coins off and they did! and partially got away with it. I'm glad the good ol'days are under confinement because of NGC PCGS ANACS.

@luvmyCAM My thoughts exactly. I have a 1944s Wheel Marks Mercury dime still in an old PCI slab. I was just a kid going to coin shows with my dad in the early 90's so they are just nostalgic for me so in their holders they stay.

the luster is broken and coin exhibits signs of circulation. the eye appeal is below average and there are large amount of hits especially obv
technically probably AU55 but I stick with my lowered grade of AU53

I would keep it in the slab, but it is certainly no better than AU53/55.
