Thanks @Pan. I know little about coin pricing in the U.S. except what I see occassionally on ebay and youtube. I have bought 50 or so Morgans here and have not paid more than probably 30 euro a coin on average. A lot are cleaned, some are culls, and some show mint luster so all over the place really. No real key dates, some better dates, but I enjoy finding them and learning about Morgans. I have no intention of putting together a set, but it is interesting.

I like what you are doing as it is a fun way to stack silver.

@slider... I'm just curious what they sell for in the u.s. ... Is $27.50 right, high, low on price? If I went into a coin shop in the u.s. and bought common date, some cleaned, some dipped, circulated Morgans....what would they cost?

My LCS a month or so ago had several bins of common Morgans, the lower grade cheaper bin was $29 each. So from that $27.50 seems like a decent price.

Thanks @kbb. Whenever I find these in Rome below 30 euro, I buy them. Some are better than others. I haven't bought a numismatic coin in the U.S. so I'm kind of going on Rome prices for these. There are two types of sellers, those that price them all at $50 because they're convinced the coin is fioro di conio (MS) and those that price them to sell . . . kind of at bullion prices. Most old French, Beligum, and Italian coins are priced similarly. Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

Just wondering if you check them to see if they are silver before you buy them?

@john, I weight, measure, look at details under a loupe, and ping on pingcoin... I don't have a sigma, but I am reasonable confident the ones I buy are authentic. I've written this on other threads...there are a lot if fake Morgans in Rome. They don't weigh right, diameter is usually a bit off, there is evidence of casting and tooling, and they never ping.

considering melt is like $18.50 per coin you are only paying a small premium for the coin so not a bad deal

without individual photos some of them look as high as AU and maybe a couple XF thrown in. even though they are common dates as long as they grade straight they would be worth about $45 US

@pan, thanks! I can tell most of these were dipped and some polished at some point in their lives; I've written this before . . . Italians polish silver - all silver.

The 1878 S I have posted on another thread shows polishing hairlines in the fields.

I'm curious what cleaned Morgans sell for in the U.S.

Thanks again!

again cant tell from photos and I can only assess by that. i'll take that into consideration next time. posting photos that more accurately show the surfaces would help. I know why you did not post individual threads for these but it helps

@Pan, I wasn't trying to mislead with my photos, just took a few quickly. Thank you for all of your help on this. I appreciate it.
