They are popular and often low mintage. For example the 2021 mintage of the 1 oz silver UNC Libertad was 450K, the 2021 1 oz gold UNC was 1,050, the 1/2 oz gold UNC only 500 mintage according to Wiki. I don't know how often/when the Mexico mint releases official mintage numbers. Compare these low numbers to the millions struck Silver Eagles, Maple Leaf, BrItannia, which is a major reason why Libertad are more expensive IMO. I have a few Libertad.

As "living water" says, it's all about the low mintages. We collect Lib's as well. We try to grab one just as soon as they are released. The costs are somewhat lower. Ofcourse, we never know when they will be released because they aren't released on a set schedule (seemingly). We just keep a very close eye on their market. We have them back to 1982. We have only a few holes but, they aren't among our top collections. It's all about mintage, mintage, mintage! That said, they are very nice coins and deserve attention with collectors.

I have a total of 1 libertard. The prices at my LCS are as follows:

Philharmonics = Spot +$5
Maple Leafs = Spot + $6
Britannia = Spot +$6.5
ASE = Spot + I don't know, haven't purchased any in a while when they went over +$9
Libertards = Spot +$14

As to why Libertards cost so much? They have topless women on them and people like coins with topless women.

Considering hfjacinto's premium information,
Do silver rounds make reasonable purchasing sense ?

@sel_69l,

If you are just looking at premium, yes but silver rounds today are at spot plus $5 so I would rather get philharmonic's instead.

In early 2022 the premiums were about $2-$3. Honestly best is to get what's the lowest premium.

That's why I prefer the five-ounce version!

Now I know why my specialist bullion dealer has Philharmonics and Maple Leafs, but not ASE's or Libertads
