I have several old (at least 60 years old!) Whitman folders that are falling apart. I'm keeping them for sentimental reasons.

I want to repair them but don't know the best way. I'm specifically speaking about the spines where the outer layer of paper is falling off.

I also want to re-attach boards that have come apart. I know enough not to use scotch tape--the tape I used a couple of decades ago or so has since yellowed and fallen off.

I'm imagining there must be some type of glue--or maybe a special type of clear tape--that would be good for this. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

You can probably find a good, wide dark blue cloth-faced tape to repair the spines. Try Amazon.

you could look into rare book repair. or possibly scrapbooking supplies. I'm not super knowledgable on the subject but I know that archival quality glues and papers exist and that people are using them for similar projects. if you plan to continue to store coins in the albums make sure that whatever adhesive you are using will be safe for the long term health of your coins.

Here is a good site for archive quality supplies for repairing books, many libraries use this company.

Yes, I'd suggest cloth-faced tape used by libraries to repair bindings. I used some on a few old stamp stock books that were coming apart. Good results.
