This coin is really worn but it looks like it could be a filled mint mark. Thanks for looking.

Appears--given the pics posted--that the D may be a victims of circulation flattening, which can give the relatively small D mint mark a filled-in look. The other explanation could be a die chip (AKA broken post). Either way, circulation wear smooths the D over. This is not uncommon on high mileage quarters with small mint marks.

Very common and no extra value.

The issue is that the post that would form the center of the mintmark, has broken off that die. This is a common find and will continue to retirement.

If the post broke off of the die, then it could rise above the top of the mintmark:

These are just die events. They add no premium to the coin. Just something the eye will notice, but now we know what it is and can move on to the next coin.

CoopHome: Broken post? What is that? on closed devices, if the post break off of the die, it can appear that there is no center of the design. with the post broken on a closed device, that area will be shallow/filed/rise above the device. different from a die chip. no premium for these though.

Thanks Coop. Makes sense. Is there a filled mint mark on the bicentennial quarter that does add value?

Better photos might show us more, but to me appears to be circulation flattening.
