From my research on split clad layer quarters, for every one of these(split after strike) there are around 400 coins with a split before strike. This one being off center and split after strike puts it in the very rare department. Not an incredibly flashy error but hard to find. Thanks for looking!

Same question - where is the clad layer missing? It appears to be intact based on these photos.

The term "split" got me as well. Split plating on zinc Lincoln cents is different than a split clad layer. (Think "clamshell" on the clad layers.)

I checked the glossary at CONECA.
Here is their definition:
(underlining is by "me")

Quote:
Split - after strike
These planchets split parallel to the faces of the planchet after the strike has been imparted, thus one side shows a coin image and the other side shows planchet striations from the split.

Split - before strike
These planchets split parallel to the faces of the planchet prior to being struck, thus they will show a weak strike on both sides of the coin.

Split - hinged
These planchets have not fully split apart but remain connected by a small piece of metal, or "hinge." They are often referred to as "clamshells."

So once this coin was slabbed an image of the edge isn't possible to show the split since both faces have been retained and paired together in the holder.

Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

This is the outer clad layer of the quarter. That is the reason the reverse is lacking feature and has an impression of the obverse. I world guess this coin weighs 2 grams. Thanks guys!

Looks like from the first image, there could be an issue with a die issue with a collar clash issue on the die?
