(MAD Mis-Aligned Die) Making the clash mark even closer to the affected area during a clash. Just a die event. Report this Post to the Staff

Don't we predominantly see clashes on the flat fields surrounding design elements? Normally, we advise folks that there is only a numismatic premium when some of the letters start to fall off the edge. Of course keep this one if you want until a more dramatic example comes along. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/29/2023 1:23 pm Not an off center. Note the reverse is normal. It is a MAD coin, but not enough to be collectable. (MAD = Mis-Aligned-Die) The setup of the location of the obverse die was not exactly over the reverse die. Thus the rim is not formed correctly on only one side of the coin. They are collectable when the devices are seen falling over the edge of the coin: How can you tell when they are collectable? When the devices fall over the edge, there will be a weakness seen on the opposite side of the coin: CoopHome: What is a MAD coin? How does this happen? miss-alignment of one die will make the obverse/reverse not over the opposite die. thus one side is affected. this can happen on both dies, but the miss alignments will be different than an off center strike.
