A quick back story on this coin. It is my mother's coin and before that her grandmother's. Mom has had the coin since the 50's and tells me her grandmother has had it since (give or take) the 1880's. Mom was pretty sure it wasn't original but may have been a reproduction from 1862. I did some reading today and read from Lianna Spurrier of CoinWeek March 1, 2019 that "cast counterfeits are plentiful but easily identified by a seam around the edge of the coin and a rough pitted surface." Unfortunately:( this describes this coin. I told here about you folks here and that I'd try to find out. I'm going to hate to break the news to her but would appreciate any feedback confirming this. I can then show her the replies put some closure to this #128518;. Lastly, would there be any type of value to it? I could put it on ebay but wouldn't know how to list it. Would it be called a "genuine, cast counterfeit" lol...I have no idea. Apologize for being long winded but want to give my best effort to find out. Thanks for your help. Thank you John. I broke the news to Mama MakesNoCentsToMe. It was all good. She chuckled and said "That figures" :)

Yes a super-obvious casting seam. Maybe most valuable from a sentimental standpoint? You could put it in a 2x2, with some of the back history written on the margins.

@Spence Yes. the seam is clear as day once I got it home and looked under my loupe. It is out there now and hopefully will help someone in the future trying to I.D. their coin.

@ Dorado It is not faux. The Louis you put is estimate to be done around 1980. I had one piece as this in my hand to analyze.

In France they consider as historic coins. Here it is an replica not an legitim coin. Was many attempts to sell those on Ha or other big auction houses, but fail. Europe has complete other vision about replica which was done long before then come out. For me is nothing more then a replica who lack of accuracy.
