I have this penny I found in a roll the other day on the hunt and came across this you'll say PMD But Stop.... now look carefully at the pictures cause in the center of penny it has a raised outline of a circle... not only that but the rim looks grinded down but are very smooth to the touch and the clad is all there even where it looks ground down... and the back is in beautiful shape no vise markings so please if someone can shine some light on this for me THANKS[size=3]

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

@gor, first welcome to CCF. Second, I hear what you are saying, but in my opinion this is 100% damage rather than a mint error. There isn't a way for this to happen given the normal mint equipment and processes. If you weigh it, I bet it comes in significantly low.

How can you explain the clad being all there then?

Before 1982 cents were 95% copper so you wouldn't see the zinc like you do on current pennies.

Intentional post mint damage without question. When this coin was minted there was no clad layer.to it. Keep looking.

pre 1982 cent coins are 100% copper - hence no cladding.
This coin has been carefully sanded or ground down - it was most likely held in place in the center by 'something' and the cent defacer went to town bringing down the rim and parts of the device elements.
This IS all PMD seen here.

to the CCF

If the coin had it date it would be pre-1982 when cents were 95% copper alloyed with 5% zinc. As already said there is no 'clad layer'.

This is simply a badly damaged coin. Value is 1 cent

Agree with all above. An accurate weight might prove interesting (or might not).

It is just PMD, cause? who care? Just a cent if you can exchange.
