the two scanned images are of a 64D Lincoln, found in a roll of cents. a couple of questions. 1) the coin appears to have two different surface textures. some of it smooth, but most of it seems "dimpled". is this damage, wear or part of the coin strike?
2) there seems to be a "grain". however not like the wood grain I have seen discussed. again is this wear, cleaning, or part of the coin strike? 3) there is a grain on the reverse, about 180 degrees opposite the obverse. Also, there is a "crater", or divot below the "c" in cent. again, is this wear, damage, or part of the coin strike?
opinions and comments are appreciated. thanks

My guess would be exposure to chemical(s).

Not sure this is PMD or chemical exposure. I've seen several of these coins with the striations showing and believe this was caused by either lightly greased dies or just not enough striking pressure to smooth out the striations in the planchet. If this can be moved to the varity section for more opinions.

This is one of two different things, and I cannot tell which one from the quality of the images.

It's either an improper alloy mixture that caused the streaking (common on earlier wheats, somewhat less common on later coins), or it's damage from a rubber wheel in a counting and sorting machine. Since I don't see any of the black skid marks common tot he latter, I would go with the former and say it's probably a metal mixture issue. They can go for up to $5 or so to the right buyer, but to most people the streaks don't affect the value of the coin.
