I was fortunate enough to get the very house I grew up in via a generous family discount from the parents. One of which may or may not have worked for a government agency which could have certainly put specific coins on his radar. So that is what brought me here. He amassed thousands of modern coins that we did nothing with other than maybe use them to teach my daughter math back when she was a kid but we always thought it was odd that they didn't seem to be just a random assortment of pocket change. Basically this whole thing started when someone was talking about a 1969 penny and my daughter recalled that we had dozens of them. We bought a few books and realized pretty quickly that most of the coins were dated to years that corresponded amazingly well to those of valuable error coins. So we think he probably knew what to look for but one thing he didn't have was a Nikon stereo zoom microscope that fortunately his son would later acquire years after his passing. I didn't know it would be used for another one of his treasure hunts of which he left many, but I'll take looking at coins over blood samples any day. We are now deep in the rabbit hole and I actually think we might have some stuff that no one has ever seen, or at least listed it in print, so it's been a really fun month for sure. I've spent many hours on this site in recent weeks to familiarize myself and my daughter's understanding but there is still much more we need to learn and being that I need eyeballs on some of the coins we have in order to draw from this community's infinite well of wisdom, I think now is the time to sign up and bug you all with stupid questions about what are more likely than not just ordinary pieces of metal. So thanks for being here. I'm going to dial in the camera try to figure out how to make pictures appear on a computer not located in a hospital. I hate computers so I think I'll probably need to get some beers first to ease the frustration but hopefully I'll have something soon.
