I have seen acid damaged coins posted here before and that is what this looked like. I've searched piles of coins but have never actually ran across one of these. Just wanted to see if that's what I have here. The coin weighs 5.51 grams, so a little light. It would not appear to be thinner or have any loss of diameter though, if it is, not noticeable.

Thanks for looking and conformation.

the surfaces do look acid eroded, but usually such coins have more of their copper core eaten away

I'm thinking acid damage. An accurate weight might be interesting to know.

If the copper on the outside edge wasn't showing, I'd think this was a counterfeit. But it was altered with acid.

Thanks, everyone! I felt like that is what I had here but without ever having one in hand before, thought I would run it by you.

Looks wire brushed, like what you put in an angle grinder or cordless drill. See the bit of a "grain" to it? I have used a wire brush like that many times and if you press hard enough you will get it to look like the quarter. Also look at how shiny it is, acid would make it a lot duller looking and more pitted. Just my thoughts.

Could be. I've seen coins that were heavily polished/buffed that looked similar but this just seemed like something else. Thanks for taking a look though.
