I have a 1972 Ike and it's probably in XF condition. What type is it? It's really hard to take a decent picture of the earth. Here's my first attempt to post. I'll guess it's a type 3. -- Boris

Is this the 72-P? Here's a detail for the type 2 Ike--how does it compare?

Yeah, I definitely don't have a Type 2. The Type 2 seems to have no islands. Mine has something but I can't tell if it's type 1 or 3. The condition seems weak.

On the back of the Ike dollars is a view of the Earth from the Moon. You have to have a lupe to see the detail they have here.

There were three different patterns of the planet Earth. The differences between each pattern is very slight, but noticeable if the coin is in minty condition. When the coin is worn, like mine, then it's harder to discern (at least for me).

I am getting more and more tempted to send this Ike to a TPG. The thing is probably in XF-45 condition. I got it in a bulk Ike purchase. Could someone like ANACS grade the coin and determine it's type? -- Boris

I have never sent a coin in, so I would definitely await more advice before sending it in. You might even want to post this question in the TPG forum.

christian_cyclist It is a Type 2 reverse. The dies used were proof dies for coins of the time. From the picture I can not tell if it is a proof coin that got into circulation of if it is a regular production coin. if it is a "S" mint mark it will be the proof. if it a "P" ( no mint mark) it will be the one your hoping for. Great Find
