I'd be at F12. TPG might call it F15 with the Key Date Bump (I've seen less-sharp coins in straight grade VF25 holders.)

This looks like Snow S-2 (wide, evenly spaced date) but the photos don't let me see the headband closely enough to look for the die chip.

The weakness of the rim at UNITED STATES is at odds with the sharpness of the remainder of the obverse. Usually by the time the fields are worn into the rims like that, the coin is AG-G at best; so this may be a slightly vertically misaligned obverse die strike, or late state Die Deterioration, or something else along those lines.

Would like to see a bit more of the marks under E in CENT, between the last 7 and last A in AMERICA, and above the 8.

looks like there's enough for F15

as a side note and just my thoughts on it. coin looks like it was treated with verdicare. no problem as it would grade straight but for an F coin there should be signs of dirt/grime or something in somewhere and if you look close at the recessed areas like in between the feathers and around the inside of the wreath near the bow you will note that something was there are cleaned off. I had a couple copper coins slabbed after verdicare and they came back straight. the coin is just too clean to not be.

If it's not original surfaces, old cleaning or whatnot, I think it would straight grade; being an 1877 it gets a lot more leeway from the TPG's; unless the marks I noted above are worse than they appear.

It does seem to be lighter than I would expect, but I can tell that the exposure is long or the light source is quite bright, which may be making the coin look lighter than it really is in hand.

I am at F-15 straight grade as well, and have seen coins in VF-20 holders look worse.

The light source is making it look brighter, in hand she's a beautiful chocolate brown color.

Yeah, someone prior to my ownership did remove some dirt as is noticed mostly on the reverse.

This is my first coin to be up for sale shortly on our forum.

She is a Choice F-15 and would CaC all day long imho.

As of right now, their are 7 - F15 Indians on ebay, I would choose this one over every single one.

In any case, that is a very nice '77! You can still read LIBERTY on the headband and that's good to see. Good luck with your sale.
