A number of years ago I bought this steel penny at a thrift store for 1 dollar. Though it was kind of cool, and for a while It just sat around until I decided to put it under the microscope and take a better look at it. I noticed there appears to be some doubling on the 4 and slightly on the 1, might also be some slight doubling on the other numbers as well. On the reverse of the coin there appears to be 3 different lines that look like the start of a die crack, and two of these lines look like they are 'reaching' towards the center of the coin and might merge together later if the die was continued to be used. Any thoughts on this coin? Is it worth anything more than the $1 I bought it for with these errors? I just thought it was kind of cool and thought I'd share it with everyone...

These aren't the best photo either, If needed I can try to take some better ones.

I see no errors,I see die events. You need to cut the glare in your photos.

A nice die crack.

I am not sure about the doubling though. I cannot really see it.

It is hard to get a good photo of the doubling. It would be a lot more apparent in person I think. I don't have a coin microscope yet, I am just using a regular microscope to look at coins more closely, so trying to hold a camera lens up to the eyepiece is a pain. I am defiantly going to get a coin microscope soon...

Here are some 'better' photos, one of them I circled where I think I see doubling, it appears to me that the 4 has been moved down some.

to the CCF Not seeing any doubling. The steel planchets were hard on the dies, so there are many cracks in 43s.

Just die wear on the '4'. The direction that normal die wear takes on that area of the coin or Machine Doubling:
