Hi there. I'm pretty new to collecting and examining coins. But, I have had this 2005 P Oregon W. Quarter for a while and have been looking to see if there were any other similar ones posted anywhere, to no avail. It looks like there might have been something else on the planchet or, possibly was struck with another coin or .? I'm hoping someone here could lend their expertise, but definitely doesn't seem post mint damage. ?

Some kind of heat damage (blowtorch)? Just taking a guess as I'm here mainly to learn.

Thanks guys! Gees, I wouldn't have thought heat damage because there's no discoloration or warping and with as much deformity as it has (localized in that one area), I would have thought there would be some discoloring or tarnish. But, I know literally nothing when it comes to this.. so, thanks!!

Yes, heat damage--agree with all above. I'm thinking the heat applied was of high intensity and of relatively short duration--rather than lying in a BBQ pit over the course of a couple summers where many, many of fires were cycled through.

this is a cooked coin - high heat was applied to this one and the cladding separated from copper core.

House-BQ or Campfire/grill alteration. It wasn't struck that way.

to the CCF and heated quickly with a cutting torch. As far as no color, this quarter is 17 years old, circulating would have rubbed the black off down to the original color.
