Next time you buy groceries, they might be needed. Found this tidbit while looking up the definition of Legal tender for my grandson. United States coins and currency(including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes and dues. Foreign gold or silver coins are not legal tender for debts. However there is no Federal statue which mandates that private businesses must accept cash as a form of payment. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. If the economy gets much worse, who knows....

OH GOD! I hope it doesn't get so bad that I have to go out and trap my money . Although I do live in a good place for it, I would hate to have to fight the gators and snakes for a beaver or musk rat.

AHHH, but your missing out the fun of paying your taxes. Think about sending in a bunch of pelts for your tax payments. Of course there is the downside of this. What would you get for a refund?

ahhh... funny story. About the IRS thingy and tax reporting: Quote: However, in a setback for the I.R.S., a Las Vegas jury refused to convict[4] nine defendants on any of the 116 charges brought against them valuing Gold eagles with their legal tender value for tax purposes. The jury hung because it could not decide if the defendants were aware that they had to declare the market value of the coins, not their face value. So that's the ticket! Buy it all in AGEs and report that! **Horrifically right-clicked from Wikipedia

Bonedigger.... My Cousin and I used to use the #280 Double spring Conibear for Beaver !.....and other Conibear's for just about EVERYTHING that swam or walked !.....coons, possums, coyote, fox, muskrat, etc. etc. etc. In those days.....(early to mid-'80's) ....you could get $25.00 - $35.00 for a nice coon pelt from a buyer in Marysville, Ks.......coyotes a little more. I haven't trapped for many many years though nowadays.......

E-foot, I trapped every winter from 1977-1979 -- coons, fox, opossums, skunk, coyote, bobcat, nutria, were our main quarry. The beavers & otters were protected cause we didn't have many of them around in East Texas.
Coons $20; Fox $30-50, opossum $1.00, skunk $2 - $4; coyote $25-$30, Bobcat $60 - $100, nutria - $5.
Once you learned how to set them and make a good smelly bait a kid could have some pretty good spending money.
Take Care Ben

Possum pelts make great socks......... Some people make things out of skunks, possum, muskrat, etc....like Mountain Man Rendezvous hats and all kinds of Native American replica things.... But really with those "other animals" they're bought by "fur buyers" and sold to "tourist shops" for kids and "lower end" materials. If you go out West, there are still lots of "shops" that are FILLED with these kinds of pelts.....and they charge good money still to purchase them ! So, a lot of them, it's not what you "do" with them........so much as you might "keep and display" kind of thing too. For instance, my Wolf pelt doesn't "do" anything or isn't "made" into something......it could be......but I just have it displayed on the wall !..... I have a funny story about one "outing" when all we bagged was a skunk....but I'll tell that one another time......but my Cousin tanned and stretched the hide and it was sold to a "fur buyer".....doubtful for someone to "hang on a wall" but simply sold to someone who will make something out of it or for someone just to "keep" as is. That's really it... IMHO.......
