Is this what would be considered a die break? Is it called a certain kind ? Are these ever desirable ?

Not a die break. That is a linear plating bubble and has no value.
Please crop your photos in the future, this will help increase the size.

Agree--appears to be a linear plating bubble. Is the coin being held in a 'protective' item (capsule), or is the rim really recessed/modified--as it appears? If uniformly recessed/worked, the coin may have been 'fitted' for a jewelry-type bezel.

A photo of the reverse would be interesting.
