Coin Week has an interesting article about the first Morgans struck April 17, 1878 in San Francisco.

And the WOW Vam-9 associated with it! Only 303 were struck making this one quite rare and quite valuable...

VAM-9 is associated with the Philly first strikes. This is San Francisco and is known as 1878-S VAM-60.

Thanks for clarifying Bump111.
I thought I had missed something in the article.

The 303 number is misleading. More like 3000 were struck.

The history behind the Morgans and where they may have been is what brought me to collect them!

Thanks for the read livingwater! Coin World and the Numismatist always have interesting articles!
