Acquired this one for face. It's a details coin based on color, which is too red for the grade, but curious what details grade. Planning on letting it retone naturally to get back to a more natural brown color since surfaces seem OK other than the wrong color.

Totally screwed-up coin, perhaps by acid. Altered surfaces. Attempts to re-tone will not help.

Just a hole filler. Fine details, damaged surfaces.

Likely a ground find someone soaked in acid. Pretty lucky find though, it's still an 11S, one of the lower mintages. Good hole filler, might get $5-10 for it?

The entire condition, and not just the color, make it a details coin. But for face value...fun find!

I agree there is way more wrong with this coin than just the color. The surfaces have been altered someway, possibly acid etched as already mentioned.
Still - I would take it as a hole filler at the cost of 1 cent.

1 cent. good purchase for hole filler otherwise everyone. it cant be graded due to the altered surfaces and if graded by a TPG would be rejected and returned as a no grade coin

Looks like he'll be filling a hole until I find a better one! Thanks all.

Better to have that one in there instead of an empty hole. A nicer one will pop up when you are ready.
