**** edited photos So the only other low mintage Morgan I identified is this 1892 p. I'm a bit surprised the date doesn't have more interest. Of course, I am only basing this on ebay sold comps. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Going through my two and a half tubes of non 1921 Morgans has made me more interested in the 1878 s I posted on another thread. The coin has some mirror like fields.. . But I'll save that for that thread...    Edited by Roma2021

@half... I posted better photos. The coin is mess!
I probably paid €28 or so for it... But likely bought it because I hadn't seen the date before. If it were a 21 in that shape I'd have (and have) passed.
I've seen a few coins with that black cross stain on them in Italy... But no idea why.

I'm a little suspicious of the "8" although that would make no sense to counterfeit the "8". Otherwise, it looks like a well circulated '92. Not a high dollar coin but, I love the history behind the Morgans and would definitely keep her in my date set. Enjoy!

Date looks more realistic on the new set of photos. Hopefully, it is genuine, albeit damaged.

Thank you, again, everyone... I feel pretty confident I have only bought authentic coins. I am just trying to figure out mintages, values, varieties, etc.
This 92 p I feel is slightly undervalued (not my coin, because of the damage,etc. but the year in general). The 83 and 01 I posted appear more valued albeit less scarce ...

Looks like it was mounted at some point in a bezel or belt buckle. Looks authentic to me, though.

Thank you everyone.
It is a bit confusing to me because the 92 p seems to have less value, even in higher grade, than the 83 s and 01 o.
That being said, what would a coin like mine retail for? Certainly not melt but certainly low premium?

The more I look at your coin, I'm liking it more and more. Not for a potential grade but, for it's showing it's age through circulation. Makes me wonder where she's been.

@dsking, I am new - 2 or less years - to coin collecting and came into it almost by accident (a longer story) but that catches me on every coin. Focusing on American coins - but also picking up a few other world and ancient coins - I imagine it's life and, ultimately, how it ended up in Rome. From an 1800 draped bust large cent, slicked out Barber coinage, to Morgan dollars - they all got here some way - on top of the lives they lived in the U.S. and who knows where else. Some bullion grade coins I imagine came as bullion, or as part of someone's type set, or as someone's 'large silver' collection, etc., but a slicked out 1900 Barber dime? who knows. someone's pocket? |

Is this a capsule coin or a 'common date' tube coin? at XF45 a straight grade coin would retail for maybe $100 at this this grade with the rim issues and surface problems maybe half that. if it was mine I would just put it in an air-tight and call it a day. if I was attempting to complete a morgan set I would use it as a filler |

@pan... Thanks for all of your help. I usually airtight a coin if the retail is around $50+...I put 96 and 83 p s in tubes... Airtight it is...
