I never got around to individually posting all the quarters that I sent off to PCGS in January but some are coming back now. I thought this one would be a good one for You vs PCGS. Out of the group I sent in, I was spot on on some and off on others. So I think these threads are good for keeping up what to expect from them. So here it is.... This 1887 quarter had been in an album for decades. Let me know what you think PCGS graded this one and Ill post the results in a couple days.

I typically discount 1 point for TV pics, so I'll say MS-64. But the eye appeal might have boosted it higher. Tough coin in any event and a beautiful example.

the weaker obv strike is difficult to determine how much they would deduct for strike. the toning is nice and may add 1/2pt. always hate grading from TV"s though. I cant find any marks or hits on this coin that would warrant deductions. I think the TV grade would be MS66 and like coinfrog I drop it one for TV so MS65.
Jester if possible post in hand photos rather than TV or both for comparison is even better which helps for knowledge base
PCGS shows these numbers:
MS64 - 26 MS65 - 24 MS66 - 23

Nice looking MS65 for me. Edit: I'm no longer confident in my MS65 grade after the in hand pics were posted. Can't get a good read on this one. Can't tell whether those are hairlines, light breaks in wear, lighting anomalies I'm with panzaldi, anywhere from AU-MS something, if it even straight graded.

big difference between in-hand and TV. in-hand shows a couple scratches on the obv right field. based on the reverse in-hand photos it looks MS but the obv has me on the bubble that it could be a slider
AU58 or MS63. I'm going with the reverse and say its MS63

MS-64, although those obverse scratches give me a bit of pause.

Here are hopefully slightly better in hand pictures. It also has great luster and full cartwheel both sides. I wish I knew how to post a video. Will post grade later today.

I'll go with MS-63. I LOVE that coin! Good luck! Can't wait to see what she grades.

This coin came back MS66. I was surprised, in a good way. I had it pegged for 63/64. And as such they charged more for the grading because their 66 bumped it up a tier. With their retail pricing, auction pricing still puts it in Regular in my opinion.
