I believe the extra claw is caused by a die chip, not an error. The word LAND just has circulation damage.

For purposes of comparison, here is a different coin which I found for sale online. The extra claw is present but not quite as visible as mine, while the "Land" is normal. I believe these two tend to appear together? The damage to "LAND" on mine sure looks like mint error to me but I'm new at this.

This is another example I found for sale online. Extra claw (or "6 Claws") is present and more closely resembles mine but again, "Land" is normal.

It is a nice find, it is common and yes a 6 claw is the nick name that has been given by collectors.

I have found a second (non-error) Alaska quarter that I will keep as a companion piece to the error, which I could probably get $2 for.

Every photos I saw here no one is what it say 6 claw. What are your base on what study? Photos to focus show nothing. With camera no more then 20x is enough.

Hi silviosi. I'm trying to learn. These are my 2 coins, zoomed in from the pics I already posted. The 6 claw error seems obvious even with my primitive technology.

I think the post stating that it's more difficult to find a 2008 Alaska quarter without die chips than with, is correct. I just found this in my pocket change. Spender I guess.

@ jcvc_0: Die chips are a fun find and some can be quite cool but "sixth claw", "extra cactus leaf", "drooling George", etc. are Tiktik and E-Bay things that are promoted early in the release by some. They put the coins up for auction for $20/piece usually then 6 months later when people see how common the "error" is the price tends to drop to a tenth of the original price or lower. Beware of people that promote these things.
I have received one 2024 dime in change so far and it is full of die chips. Yet no one promotes this. It's partly because it is extremely common for dimes to have die chips and secondly, no one is going to pay $20 for it.
