to the CCF That is damage, not an error, it has been ground down on both sides. It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin and there is no way for that to happen at that time

to the Community. We are seeing more and more of this type home made coin damage,it has become a new trend to grind down the copper coating and exposing the zinc core and making it look like an error, they are widely seen on sights like ebay and Etsy and so on.....

Wondering how you can grind off the copper plating on the shield, yet leave the copper on EPU largely intact?
ADD: Guess I haven't looked at a shield cent recently—I forgot that EPU is incuse!

I have this 1998 D like it in my collection of oddities/errors found in circulation. Completely smooth to the touch.

Looks like the plating was removed and now the zinc is showing through the areas missing the plating. Just a spender coin.

this coin was neatly sanded down on both sides to expose the zinc core.

Drew: Intentional post mint damage. no mint error. Jvcv: post your coin in a thread of its own, not in the middle of someone else's. Drew M: to the CCF!

well folks thanks for the input, I agree it's possible it was post mint damage on the overall condition, but the DDO oververse on the reverse side is Definetly a minting error, my photographs are not the best.

Quote: it has become a new trend to grind down the copper coating and exposing the zinc core and making it look like an error I found one of these a few weeks ago in a roll. Perfectly smooth coin. I don't see any doubling on this coin. Even if there were, there is no way to tell now.
