First a little background to provide some context. I'm 72 years old. My father-in-law is 95, he's not really a coin collector, but picks up the odd item here and there. He's also very conserative politically (I'm not), so coins and bullion appeals to him though he doesn't have much of either. So today he calls me first thing in the morning. Wants to get my opinion of a wonderful offer he saw on television. A complete run of ASE's from 1986 to present all graded MS69 by PCGS. Only $3,000. My father-in-law is financially comfortable, but not overly so. He still has to watch his spending. He's aware of his own mortality, but believes this might be a great investment for the family when he leaves his mortal coil. I have repeatedly told him when he's called me with similar opportunities that if he saw it on t.v., or in a non-coin related magazine it's probably not a good deal. I tell him that this is not a good deal. He doesn't want to believe me. I point out to him that there are people selling the same thing on ebay for a lot less. He grudgingly concedes I might be right. I'll see him tomorrow when he'll probably ask me about investing in bags of SBA dollars or the like. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

It doesn't take long on google to find other sellers at around $2400 at 39 coins sets, which averages to $61/coin. Still seems high, you could probably piecemeal this together and get a few labelled MS70 along the way for less. At $3k, its a lowsy investment for the family IMO. An investment assumes more hope of future sale for more $, but that is highly improbable in this offering. The guy on TV selling at MAX retail if not more and is the only winner in the deal.

Woke last night at 4AM and turned on the TV. Saw this exact offering - it's from Rick Tomaska / RCTV (Rare Collectibles TV). He was demonstrating the "value" of various individual coins in this set by showing asking prices he found on ebay.

Same thing last night - woke at 4AM and turned on the TV (it's a nightly thing). Mike Mezack was selling the same set - at $79.99 per ASE.

Man o man, I guess we're both lucky we got in when we did. Pretty soon an OGP set, given the value of the ASE and the gold, will be a five figure set!
