Obviously this quarter looks beaten up. Some of the wear may be PMD, but on reverse there is clearly something going on that could be mint error. The part over the "GAN" in "Michigan" is RAISED.

Not sure what part on the obverse you feel may be an error, everything I see is just damage. The area you mention over Michigan on the reverse is raised because it is pushed up from the rim of the coin. When a coin is bent out of shape like this, it will be PMD everytime, it just can't happen in the dies.

Obverse edited to reverse in OP. Sorry. At first I thought the same thing, it must've been bent/raised on "GAN" and worn smooth flush with rim. But I just don't see that the more I look at it. Isn't there EXTRA metal there not just distorted, like a large slab-like die chip?

There is nothing on that coin that can't be attributed to damage.

That bad rim ding on the obverse pushed the metal out on the reverse.

Thanks for the information and replies. If I had to bet I would still say the metal is raised to a height and at an angle that could only be from a die error.

Sorry, all damage. The GAN of Michigan is just opposite the damage that is also noted on the obverse. a big hit in that region (as well as the rest of the quarter too)

An example or somewhat brutal post-strike damage.

Correct, major abuse of a quarter. Hope someone will accept in change.
