Hi everyone, I posted a joke about buying a new corvette with a 1964 penny I found. It wasn't worth much in the end, but it made me wonder what kind of awesome finds the members here have found. We see all these life changing coin finds everywhere, and know they are few and far between. However, I would love to hear all about your spectacular find stories, if you don't mind sharing! For me, I've found nothing at all that could buy me my new corvette!

The best I can offer is that I found a bunch of silver Kennedy half dollars roll hunting in the 90s and I traded a large number of them to a coin shop for most of the Franklin half dollars I needed to fill my Dansco album.

Well, that's good Jbuck! Judging from the silence here, people don't want to share their spectacular finds, or haven't found anything spectacular, yet!!! I say yet, cause I know I'll find that million dollar coin one day. After all, isn't that every coin collector's dream?

Quote: After all, isn't that every coin collector's dream? It is probably my nightmare... I have never sold a coin (traded, yes; sold, nope). If I found a million dollar coin would I be able to sell it to buy all the coins I want and a new car? I hope I get to test that one day.

So my next question is Jbuck, are we chasing unicorns? You've got to love this hobby, otherwise we wouldn't be spending so much time and effort on it! Must be all the glitter and shine!

Been collecting (searching, etc., etc.) for several decades. No life-changing finds for me. Modest 'scores' here and there, but nothing massive. My dream isn't to become rich via numismatics, I just enjoy coins--the rich variety, design aspects, etc.

Several decades, WOW! A true passion for collecting ijn1944!! But I think even collectors like you might get a kick out of a huge discovery! Might be wrong?!?!?! But I doubt it!!!

I can only make a general comment about coins being life changing. I took up an interest in coin collecting as a kid. I am an old man now.
In all of that (coin collecting) experience, there has been some spectacular bargains that I have been fortunate enough to acquire along the way, including a couple of less well known patterns of European coins and trial strikes that may? be unique.
None of these special mention coins have been life changers for me.

I enjoy threads like this I have had many awesome finds of both American and foreign coins that are worth far more than what I spent (aka cherrypicking), not to mention I just like them like others here... No incredible life changing finds yet because these coins are rare to very rare and expensive to obtain. But I am ever looking for such coins from all over.

Quote: My dream isn't to become rich via numismatics, I just enjoy coins--the rich variety, design aspects, etc. We are all just hobbyists here enjoying numismatics, I've had a few scores here and there but nothing is life changing. Obviously if I stumbled across a multi million dollar coin that would be nice, but isn't the goal for me. Also who needs a new corvette when the old ones are just as cool
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

A huge discovery would be a kick, yes. That said, I'm quite happy with my numismatic journey and I don't let the 'failure to discover' cause me grief.

Interesting to hear about all the passion from all the people who replied! Thanks for sharing! But still no unicorns? There are surely a few more members who came across treasures while hunting! Hoping to hear more stories that'll make us all wide-eyed and bushy tailed!
