I was just going to PM this to GO, but maybe others have some info, also? I am wondering if: A. Does it hurt the value to take the coin out of it's plastic wrapper? B. Does the case and accompanying letter add any value to it? I'm guessing that the answers are NO and NO, but I thought I would get some input. One more thing. Has anyone heard of the company on the letterhead? It sounds like a fancy name someone gave to the desk in their basement office! LOL

Quote: Now we need to start you on some Marshall Islands Ugh...I now own one more commem. than I told myself I ever would, so I better not. They do have some beautiful coins, though... And I also told my self I wouldn't buy any paper money. Well I recently broke that "rule", too. I have no self-control! DL20K, I am not sure what coin your avatar is. But judging by your comment, I am sure I can't afford it!

^ I don't know whether you can afford it, or not But in any case, getting it would be a reason to celebrate. It's a 20 cents pattern piece.

Hmm...the packaging looks 70s-era, and the info card inside is obviously translated. Question is...is that official packaging for an English-speaking market?

I thought the little info card sounded like a translation, too. The wording doesn't really "flow".
GraceOutcast, did yours come like this?

I've had 3-4 of these from various places and haven't seen this display before. Most of the times it's no different then HSN and Littleton type companies that profit from repackaging

Here's my opinion: While B isn't really THAT important, A certainly DOES affect the value of it. These coins are getting scarcer in it's original cellophane. Sure it may be about 10-20 dollars in the cellophane but you'll never tell how expensive it can get in the future. For instance, a proof 1970 Lenin ruble coin still in it's cellophane is going in at least 400-600USD if I am not mistaken. Once that was thought to be common is not too true.

Thanks for the input GO and gx' I guess that was one thing I was wondering, but didn't ask. Even if the red case isn't original, can I still assume the cellophane wrapper is? You also alluded to another thing I was thinking but didn't ask. Is this considered a proof, or uncirculated? Maybe they didn't make a proof? I have been kind of lazy looking for info on this coin. I just liked the way it looked, it fits into my WWII collection, and the price was right ($4.50 Which, by the writing on the letter, appears to be only 30 cents more than it cost in 1975!). I'll do some research on it after work and see if I can answer my own questions! Unless someone wants to give me the easy way out! Thanks again guys!

schmidty, the cellophane wrapper is definitely original. I'm not too sure what the condition of the coin is supposed to be. There are debates that it's a proof and some are going with proof-like. I personally would say proof-like as proof coins are quite scarce back in those days. However if you have the 1988 novodel version which it doesn't seem like in your case, that is a proof coin.
But still if you want a circulated version of the coin so that you can put into your album, they should be available for less than a couple of dollars. I think I have one spare somewhere in my collection that is if I can find it...

I got one of these last week in a bulk darkside purchase from chasinva on here and spent ten minutes looking at it trying to figure out why it looked familiar. Then realized what it was when I looked at the New Avatar contest. Now what to do with it? Could build something like this just to honor GraceOutcast. https://goccf.com/t/44485Or just throw it in a drawer. (It actually already went in my Dansco 3 from each country albums, replacing a 20 kopek.)

gxseries,
Thanks for the info. I will definitely keep it in the cellophane wrapper. If you do have a spare circulated one somewhere, let me know. I would like to have one for my album and leave this one as is.
Quick question: you mentioned a "1988 novodel version". Is that some sort of re-minting?
jgfindring, that display case you made is beautiful! You do good work!

Yes schmidty, a novodel is a restrike except it has a more broad definition as it allows minor changes, i.e. may not be a very faithful exact reproduction. The edging of the coin would show up as 1988 H which I am quite sure yours isn't.
