Hey guys! Metal detecting here in Atlantic Canada turns up some interesting things from time to time. Once in while something different comes home and needs to be identified. I found this one yesterday, 27.5 mm and 5.47g on a scale..half penny size. I've looked through pics of some known examples to try to make a match..either missed it or didnt see anything matching. If any of you know this one please share with me anything you can add.

I believe its a old Spanish or Peruvian coin 1800s there abouts. Not sure who yet, I'm no expert here sorry.
What kind of hit did you get on the detector, may I ask?
There are a few on here that know these older coins. Love to read what they say.

George III Obverse with Legend I have never seen before and Britannia Reverse . A lot of the evasion tokens had wording different to the legal tender as it was a crime punishable by death to counterfeit . A token of some design but that's as far as I can help

I'll go with the George III. Now token, half penny or counterfeit for the time? 1773 or 1807? Head turned wrong way or right. I'm most certainly intrigued.
Did you ask the metal detecting people section on here by any chance?

Yes, an evasion counterfeit of the late 18th century copying the copper halfpennies of 1770-1775. The legends and devices were deliberately blundered in an attempt to evade the law.

From Mullhulland Ignatious Cobwright listing of evasions from 1993. His listing has the most bizarre title: A Journey through the Monkalokian Rain Forests in Search of the Spiney Fubbaduck, by Malachy Greensword. Both 'authors' are pen-names of Alan Judd

I know I'm dredging up an old thread here, but this one just sold a few minutes ago, I was outbid, so it's not mine. As far as I can tell there are only two different reverses known with the Ganges III obverse. The "Britannia. Rules" one like yours ironhorse, and the one pictured below with Stratfor Densis". Also shown in the listing from tokenscot. The last Token Book from Galata lists it as well on page 480 it is # 98 and one is pictured in the book is in decent condition.

Quote: Bummer! It's okay jbuck, I got the token I really wanted out of the dealer lots selling, some of the evasions went for crazy $$$ too, that Ganges III sold for a little under $40.00 USD, the others were from $50 to $90, I was thinking around $25 to $30 on each. guess there is a lot more interest in them than I thought. I only know a couple of evasion copper collectors here in the the USA.
