What is this penny ? Very shiny silver color. Very nice condition. Weighs 3.40 All I can determine is that it's way too heavy to be aluminum.

No, value is not added by plating a cent. It's actually considered damage. But it's still worth one cent.

@bor, if this coin is attracted to a strong magnet, then it likely was plated with nickel. If not, then plated with a different metal. It is interesting to look at, but still only worth face value.

Yes, looks to be a plated '77 D. Would imagine the reverse appears the same?

May not be enough thickness (if it is nickel) in the plating to have any significant magnetic effect.

Why plated? Sometimes students do that as science projects or an after market company will do it for resale.
