Well, I'm stumped. Anyone know what's going on here? Die clash? MAD clash? Something else? I've never run across this before.
Looking closer at an usual texture near the rim from "Liberty" to "In God" revealed what looks like rotated letters, numbers, and a raised area that looks eerily similar to the "FG" designer initials on older Lincoln Memorial pennies.
The coin's toning caught my eye (it's more colorful in person- pics don't do it justice), especially since it's relatively clean of dirt/buildup and has nice luster.
Any input is appreciated!

@sha, I'm seeing a tiny bit of circulation wear plus some DDD on LIBERTY, especially the first three letters. There may be the start of a Ridge Ring as well. On the other hand, the raised area might be a plating bubble. Have you tried depressing it with the tip of a wooden toothpick?

I hate to go against the grain but I do see a letter or two next to rim in first picture. It may be a transfer from another coin embedded in gunk, need better close up pictures to tell for sure. Location is left of IN and between black spot and rim. Looks like an F or E.

@spence I thought it could Ridge Ring too, esp with the "LIB" DDD that you mentioned. But the rings I've seen on other coins have never looked like actual letters or numbers up close to me, more like general stretching/pulling of the metal, so this one threw me off a bit.
I did test the raised areas with a toothpick, and it seems solid to me so thinking not a plating bubble.

@oddguy the area you pointed out is exactly what made me want to get a closer look at it in the first place. An "S" shape slightly above the L in Liberty right up next to the rim also stands out a bit in the first photo.
It's tough to get the angles right for photos with the coin's color variation, but I'll see if I can get some better shots tomorrow.
Thanks for the help, everyone!
