Any Buffalo nickel with a readable date found is a good thing.

As a kid I always wondered what it would be like living on the West Coast where S mint mark coins were not so hard to find.

I remember even saving every 1968-S, 1969-S and 1970-S nickles, although common, because back then it was such a thrill to find an S mint mark. So now I have some rolls of common S mint nickels I have no idea what to do with! I'm sure if I ever got a roll of the 68-Ss, but the 70-S I know I have a couple rolls of tucked away.

Still very hard for me to just spend them b/c...well...they have an S mint mark! Laughing at myself over this. Maybe it's the memories of the childhood excitement?

The chart really tells the story of finding S mint mark nickels in the Midwest. I've pulled well over 1,200 nickels each of D and P but only 182 of S.

I found a second 1951-S in this batch of 10,000. This now makes only three 1951-S in 228,000 nickels searched. This one will most likely be an upgrade in one of the books.

I am now at 230,000 nickels searched. No new additions, however I did find a couple of great upgrades, including a beautiful 1950-P that I was certain would have been a 1950-D when I found it. I found 5 semi key date nickels in this batch of 10,000. That was highly unusual, but provided lots of excitement over the past month that I spent working on this batch. I am working on the video and will post the link once it is complete. I am still looking for the 1939-D and the 1943-D.

I also found another 1948-S. As John77 mentioned before, the law of averages is finally catching up with that particular nickel. I also found a pair of 1951-S and a pair of 1950-P along with a 1936 Buffalo nickel.
