This will be my first (of many) real "submission" to the ccf. Realizing just how hard it is to get good pictures of coins. Hope this is enough to get a good idea of condition and some general feedback. Weighs 4.91g Really appreciate the warm welcome so far!

and lots of Monticello steps but that may be related to the error, otherwise 1970 is one of the toughest years for full steps, interesting coin

@Dearborn Thanks for the compliment. Using a makeshift photo box of aluminum foil, Amazon box and a drop light. Is FS "full steps"? that's a term I've seen many times but never fully understood.

Full steps are appealing but are common on broadstrikes or I suppose foldover strikes as well. The standard pressure applied to the planchet is increased in these errors.

The steps of Monticello must be complete, without any disturbance. they are 5 and 6 steps. A close pic of could help for analyze. The full step it is nothing add to your coin compared with this error LOL.

Oh I'm watching all the posts from Barrett! These are some world class coins being posted and this nickel is just one of many. Exciting to see a collection like this come to light. And from the coins I've seen so far not only are they remarkable errors but also in great condition.

I wonder if one of our error experts could comment on how common these things are--for example is this pretty much unique or are there a handful of others? I don't think that I've ever seen one posted here and there are no pictures of this to go with the description on the error-ref.com website. Also, is this likely a result of mint sport? It looks to me like the planchet was folded over, fed in between the dies and then struck without the collar. Is that right? Thx for helping me learn.

Spence - Mike did comment on this coin in the OP's original topic about this error collection.

Quote:
The nickel located in the upper left corner looks like it might very well be a foldover strike. On nickels, such errors generally command prices in the $4000 range. You might want to start with that one.
