I've been collecting new silver coins for a few years now but I have a project that is going to take some time. I have a box full of old coins that I inherited from my Mom quite a while ago and since I now collect coins myself I decided to finally get into it. I just opened it up this morning and so far this is what I have. About 40 to 50 mint, proof and uncirculated sets before1990 10+ various commemorative medals Over 30 rolls of pennies before1990 3 rolls of 1960s quarters 6 rolls of 1960s dimes 3 rolls of wheat pennies 1 roll of Mercury dimes4 silver certificate $1 bills 2 stamped first day $2 bills There is also a small box of about 80 old worn quarters and nickels that includes some Standing Liberty quarters and a few Buffalo nickels. I will start organizing and identifying exactly what I have and eventually post some photos.

to the forum, GLB49! If you're looking for values, check ebay's sold/completed listings for individual items for the mint / proof sets and commemorative medals. You didn't specify if the rolls of '60s quarters and dimes are silver. If not, they're worth face value. If silver, quarters are ~ $4.50 and dimes ~ $1.80 melt value. Generic wheaties 4¢ each. Silver certificates must be crisp uncirculated to have substantial added value - otherwise a bit over face. The deuces are quite common, and do not command a premium. As for the box of SLQs and Buffalo nickels, slicks also do not command a premium, unless you have a key date. But you have a bunch of treasures inherited from your mother, and that is invaluable.

GLB49, what a wonderful way to remember your mother.
Are the rolls original bank rolls or rolls she put together? The $2 bills are likely 1976, a common practice many people participated in for the Bi-Centenial. The mint, Proof sets should be interesting, especially if they are from the 1960's and earlier.
Enjoy the project and upload pictures when you can

Thank you for the welcomes. I'm still figuring out how to quote individual replies. Except for some Morgan dollars my silver coin collection consists of newer coins that have never been in circulation so I'm happy to be adding this many older coins. And, as mentioned above, it's nice to add some of my Mom's coins to the collection. I'm not too concerned with value because I don't sell any of my coins. They will eventually go to my three kids and they will like having some of their grandmother's coins. Right now I'll work on organizing and documenting and buying some holders for the bills, the quarters and the nickels.

I've been looking at some of the rolls and they are labeled which will make things easier. The box of 30+ rolls of pennies all have my Mom's bank account number on them so I assume she had gone through them and they would have eventually been deposited. There are: 3 rolls of new uncirculated 1972-S pennies 1 roll of 1960-D dimes 1 roll of 1962-D dimes 1 roll of 1963-D dimes The fourth roll of dimes is mostly 1962 with a few 1963. All of the rolls are labeled silver. The 3 rolls of quarters are labeled silver. 1 roll is all 1944 and 1949, 1 roll is 1952 and 1959 and 1 roll is mostly 1961 with 2 1960 and 5 1963. The tube of Mercury dimes and two tubes of wheat pennies are not labeled so they will have to eventually be gone through.
