This goes through both sides and the reverse looks really deep in the middle...

Can somebody please opine as to whether or not this is PMD or a big die crack?

The coin has been struck on a cracked and defective planchet.
If the damage was on the die that deep ravine across Britannia's torso would be raised and not incuse as we see here.

A planchet flaw of this size on a US coin would be collectible. I wonder--is the same thing is true for this Farthing?

I agree with Hogart. The coin seems to be struck on a defective blank. For a variety or error collector, it should be worth something. However I know British collectors aren't much interested to error coins at least as much as American collectors
