Hello CCF. When I first looked at this 1982 D cent, I thought it might be a woody, but after reviewing some posts on CCF, I changed my mind and now thinking roller lines with some nice toning. Hummmm... Maybe a woody with nice toning and roller lines. Hope your weekend has been good so far and thanks for your opinion. Jim

looks like parallel lines indicative of roller marks from dirty rollers which press planchet metal to their desired thickness. "roller marks" (not "roller lines") refers to marks left when rolling out the stock from which blanks are punched. Notice how the lines of the are basically parallel with almost no thickness variation within each line. These are actually on the planchet, and not on the die: This effect is quite common in copper-alloy cents from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Some mistakingly think they are 'improper alloy mix' errors which are different ('woody') with streaks or lines of varying widths and lengths. https://www.error-ref.com/improper-alloy-mix/

Thanks... Being half right is better than being whole wrong. (Whatever that means). Roller marks it is...Another page in the old lesson book.
