I'm certainly not an expert, but it appears to be MD ( Machine Damage) or DDD ( Die Deterioration Doubling). Just my opinion.

Yes, step-like doubling that serves to make design elements more narrow is Machine Doubling. This is especially evident on your picture of UNUM.

As noted, this is Machine Doubling not a Doubled Die. The doubling is step-like and reduces the width of the devices as Spence said above. On a Doubled Die you should see rounded doubling that increases the width of the devices or can even show separation in the most extreme examples.
