This has all the characteristics of a die pair #2, strong reverse. It has some light corrosion or verdigris on both sides. Would welcome your thoughts on grade and whether it would detail. I'm planning to send it to NGC for verification.

As it stands now VF20 and would probably "detail" for the corrosion. Might be worthwhile for a shot at conservation when you send it in.

I don't see why this wouldn't straight grade as is, very nice coin. I'll say VF-30

Going for 'professional' conservation is a good idea. I could see VF20-25.

VF-30/35
Doesn't look like corrosion, looks like staining. I would leave it as is!

I'm with badthad. would not touch this one. I'm thinking it was cleaned at some point so I think its a toss-up to come back straight. I'm also with him on grade. VF30 and a good shot at 35

Where did you get him? How long have you had him? Did you buy it as a 22 no D strong reverse? I think he looks great! VF-35 smat

I've had this one for awhile, I just decided to include it in a batch I'm sending to NGC. I bought it raw on ebay 15 years ago as a 22 no D. Can't remember if they described it as a strong reverse. Back then photos weren't nearly as good as they are now, so I do recall it was taking a bit of a chance.

I thought I would give an update on this 22 no D. Just got it back from NGC, and I'm pleased that they gave it an XF, probably largely based on the reverse. I thought it was 50/50 on whether it would detail, but hard to argue with the overall grade.

Not surprised about the ED notation, had hoped otherwise.
