If you know of a place that is selling dansco album screws cheaper than $5 for a set of two screws + $5 shipping, let me know.

But, that's really not the focus of this post because the above doesn't really exist. In a couple of my Danco's I guess I screwed them in too tight when adding/remove pages and I have a couple which were impossible to open without destroying those cheap aluminum screws. They strip really easily and trying to hold them with pliers destroys them quickly.

I was thinking about trying common hardware as a replacement instead of going the coin collecting supplies route but I don't know what they're called.

It looks like they need to be flat so the album cover can close flush. Needing to be flat and thin rules out many options I'm aware of.

Anyone know the name of what style these screw/bolt things these are so I can try and find cheaper replacements that are more rugged?

Also, any concern about types of metal used?

Take the album with you to some place like Home Depot or Ace Hardware.

@trent, can you please post a picture of an undamaged one? I'd be willing to bet that we can find something for you at mcmastercarr.com.

I had some get stripped, but this happened with a new album I bought from Wizard and they were able to ship me replacements. I am not sure if you can order new posts and screws from them, as I am unable to find them on their website. However, it cannot hurt to ask.

Otherwise, you could take them to a local hardware store and see if they can match them.

@Spence Sure, here is an example.

Looking-For-Replacement-Aluminum-Screws/Bolts-For-Dansco-Album-Pages

These one pictured are for a 1" album. There's other album thicknesses like 3/4", 5/8".

When I measured my 1" album, the thickness of the sum of pages that this bolt needed to cover was probably more like 7/8".

I'm guessing thickness of the hole in the pages it would need to go through is about 3/16"

@Jbuck "Post" is what I was missing. Just googling 'post and screw' quickly leads me to believe this will be easier than I thought.

I think they're actually called: 'screw and binding post' sets. I've also seen another reference to 'sex bolts and binding barrels'

They are aluminum for a reason (they don't rust) if you can't find what you are looking for I would suggest stainless steel which would be stronger that the aluminum

Search for "binding post with screw" on Amazon.
My wife buys them from there for her projects.

We used to have an old-school hardware store down the street in the middle of town that had rows and rows and rows of drawered cases of every type of bolt, screw, fastener, etc. It had been in business since 1918. Pretty sure they would have had those, in several sizes. Run out of business by the big box stores. Became a pool hall two years ago.

I've those screw and barrel nuts before......they used to be used in accounting books....specifically on books of collection letters from credit reporting agencies (you would register with a company they would give a book with forms of demand letters for receivable payments ....original copy to your non paying customer duplicate to credit reporting agency).....maybe Stationary Store or Staples?

Brass dome philips head bolts and nutst of appropriate length would be OK, but
Dansco original replacements in brass would be best.

If in a major hardware store, ask for binder barrel bolt sets.
Office Works stores may also have them, or get them in for you.
