I am happy to report I now own one of the few 1953 nickels made by Feancis LeRoy Henning. It was found by someone else and sold to me. 5.5 grams. 79% copper and 20% nickel, just like other known Henning fakes. Scanned on an industrial XRF machine, not a handheld device. Typical porous look to it. Has a couple "Looped R" markings found on the Looped R reverse but without the Looped R. Probably before the damage to the 'R" took place or perhaps the same host coin was used for another reverse die without the flaw. Hoping to finish a formal article that maybe Coin World or the Numistmatist might publish. I am the same Joe Cronin who wrote the error book Mint Errors to Die For..

I am trying to upload photos, but they are all being rejected as too big! Very frustrating

I'm fairly sure I have a counterfeit 1950s 5¢ not made by Henning. The notable thing about it is that it's quite soft, unlike any copper-nickel alloy, but clearly not lead.

Publius, have you ever had it metal tested? Seems like people in the counterfeit coin niche would be interested to do forensics on that nickel.

@publius
I'd be happy to do an XRF scan if you want to send it to me

I now have every year he made: Both Obverses for the 1944; the 1939, 1946, 1947, and now the 1953.
I'm also the only person that I know of who has all his dates.
Anyone else know someone who has all of them?
