Curious as to anyone's thoughts on grade? Note, this has been in the family 150+ yrs and has a little dirt. Struggled with getting good clear pics, hopefully these are good enough.

More like XF detail I'd say, there is some obvious wear. Lots of small hits and no trace of luster. Surfaces don't look original but that could be the photos.

Any damage to the edge reeding?

Hard to judge the surfaces but these old gold pieces usually get some breaks and liberal grades. I'll guess AU50 if it straight grades. Nice family piece.

I'm with Jaobler on this one EF40 possible details could stretch to an EF45 as well.

Well, finally took some better pictures in natural light. Now I remember seeing those scratches on the obverse. Probably preclude it from straight grade but given the family history, I don't care too much. Same goes for the dirt, keeping it as is. The edge reeding looks to be quite nice overall.

VF35 possibly XF40. they are little more lenient with gold scratches. not sure it would grade straight or not.
